XP is as fast as the Pentium 4 and seems to work
quite well for audio—and costs a lot less. For IDE hard drives, I've had
good luck with the recent-production Maxtor 7200 rpm drives. Western
Digital drives are reputed to be good. For
CD-R, I've had good results when using Yamaha or Plextor drives Motherboard manufacturer names to look for include
Intel, ASUS, Gigabyte, ECS, MSI, Soyo, and A-Bit. I recommend ASUS or
Gigabyte. RAM:
– 256MB minimum, 512MB
